Girls

Despite the huge number of girls who do not receive an education in Malawi, all of our girls at STEKA are going to school. All the girls at STEKA now have a safe, enjoyable and positive home. They all have hopes and dreams for the future that you can help to realise. STEKA receives no government funding and relies on donations to feed, clothe and educate the children. The cost of sponsoring each girl below includes the cost of her education and food every month. Please get in touch if you would like to sponsor an individual girl or contribute to the general financial requirements of running STEKA home.

Happiness

Happiness’ date of birth is unknown but she was brought to STEKA in April 2017 due to concerns for her safety and is thought to be less than a year old. Happiness has settled in well to the STEKA family and is enjoying lots of cuddles.

Deborah

Deborah arrived at STEKA in 2014 when she was 3 years old.

Deborah was referred by the Department of Social Welfare as they were concerned for her safety at home. Her background has caused her to have physical development needs, which are being met at STEKA.

Deborah is studying at STEKA Nursery School and is currently learning to draw shapes, she loves making friends in her class, cuddles and playing with her brothers and sisters at STEKA!

Lucy

Lucy’s date of birth is unknown but she arrived at STEKA in 2015, when she was around 5 years old.

Lucy was very quiet to begin with but has shone this year, making many friends with her new brothers and sisters. Lucy has shown a passion for learning and has worked hard both in her class and with the volunteers at home. Above she is pictured on her last day of nursery, when she came first in her class! Lucy loves drawing, climbing and racing.

Lucy began Standard 1 in September 2016 and is loving school and having so many new opportunities to learn, she especially loves learning english.

Desire

Desire arrived at STEKA in 2014, when she was around three years old after being abandoned.

Desire is currently learning at STEKA Nursery School and loves singing songs and dancing with her class! Desire loves sparkles and playing with her big sisters at STEKA.

When Desire was asked what she would like to be when she is older, she said, “I will be big!”

Edith

Edith was born in 2000 and came to STEKA in 2008 when she was 8 years old.

Edith came to STEKA to be cared for after the passing of her parents.

Edith is in form 3 at Divine Mercy Secondary school.

Edith enjoys drawing and helping to look after the younger children, she hopes to be an actress when she has finished school.

Iness

Iness’ date of birth is unknown but she came to STEKA in 2009, when she was around 3 years old.

Iness receives a scholarship to a private primary school and is currently in Standard 5.

Iness enjoys doing crafts, learning maths and reading – her favourite book is I Am Malala! She would like to be a lawyer or a teacher when she has finished school.

Chanazi

Chanazi was born in 2003 and came to STEKA in 2010 when she was 7 years old.

Chanazi is about to start standard 5 at Blantyre Girls Primary school and is enjoying learning to read.

Chanazi enjoys playing netball, helping look after her little sisters and making bracelets, she hopes to work in a bank when she is older.

Abigail

Abigail’s date of birth is unknown but she came to STEKA in 2013.

Abigail enjoys having lots of cuddles and making everyone at home laugh.

Molini

Molini was referred to STEKA in 2016 as she was living in extremely unhappy circumstances. Molini is 14 years old and hopes to be a nurse when she is older!

Aneisha

Aneisha came to STEKA in 2015 as she was living in very unhappy circumstances. Now she loves helping to look after baby Benjamin and singing lots of different songs that she has learnt at school!

Aneisha is in standard 1 at Montessori Christian Primary School and enjoys art. When she is older she would love to be a nurse!

She says, “I love STEKA because I am with family.”

Mwatitha

Mwatitha was born in 1998 and came to STEKA in 2010 when she was 12 years old. Mwatitha was living in extremely unhappy circumstances before she came to STEKA. She was referred to STEKA by the police for her safety.

Mwatitha is in standard 6 at Blantyre Girls Primary school. She enjoys dancing and hopes to be a nurse in the future.

Brenda

Brenda is 13 and joined the STEKA family in 2013.
